The original, due to hardware, lacks lighting and shadow effects. The atmosphere is incredible! I think this is one case where you can say graphics really do matter. I also had doubts I could find a legal copy and didn't want to emulate.
Resident Evil 1 for PS1 was iconic for it's time, but it has some shortcomings. After perusing the web and watching YouTube videos (while trying to avoid spoilers) I know I made the right choice. With so many games being remastered or remade these days, I was really contemplating if I should start with Resident Evil 1 or the HD Remaster/REmake.
